Lydall Industrial Filtration is a world leader in the development and manufacture of engineered needle punch products and operate state of the art manufacturing equipment and technologies at their facility in Rossendale, Lancashire, providing world class quality and high-speed production.

Lydall contacted Power Efficient Solutions to assist them with improving their electrical efficiency and reducing energy spend.

After assessing the client’s data, we identified a relatively poor power factor of 0.85 (lag) or 85% efficient and followed up with a site survey.

During our site survey we identified an existing power factor correction unit, which was isolated from the supply, due to capacitor failure.  The capacitor failure had led to a fire within the unit, forcing them to isolate the power factor correction unit from the supply, sometime ago.

We carried out a full maintenance visit on the PFC unit and made recommendations to return the unit to its fully rated output, improve ventilation and recommission.

This work was carried out during normal working hours, with no disruption to the clients’ normal operations, and led directly to a power factor improvement from 0.85 (lag) to 1.00 (unity) and offered a return on investment of under 12-months, as detailed above.

Lydall have since entered a 3-year maintenance contract to ensure the efficiency of their electrical supply.
