WEC Group – Sherburn Metalwork

WEC Group Ltd is one of the largest engineering and fabrication companies in the UK. The group has been providing fabrication, laser cutting, precision machining, waterjet cutting, powder coating, and CCTV mounting solutions for over 40 years and employ over 900 staff across 15 companies.

Power Efficient Solutions were initially contacted regarding issues with an existing Power Factor Correction unit at their site in Rotherham, that was non-functional.

Having returned the existing PFC unit to good working order and identifying two further supplies suffering from non-functional PFC, that were also addressed, and problems rectified during the same maintenance visit, the client asked us to look at Sherburn Metalwork in Leeds, as this site didn’t currently benefit from PFC, and they were interested in the potential benefits.

Initially, we carried out a free of charge desktop survey and identified significant benefit would be realised from the introduction of PFC equipment and followed this up with a site survey, again free of charge.

We installed a 150kVAr ‘Standard’ PFC unit during normal working hours and with no disruption to the clients’ normal operations and realised the savings detailed below.

WEC Group were delighted with the results of the PFC maintenance visit and PFC installation works and they asked us to look at five further sites regarding PFC and a number of sites regarding Solar PV.
