NDC Polipak – Birmingham

Based in Birmingham and Halesowen, NDC Polipak offer a wide range of packaging solutions, polythene damp proofing and building accessories.

They contacted Power Efficient Solutions to carry out maintenance of their Power Factor Correction unit, at their Birmingham, as it appeared to be non-functional.  They also requested we carry out analysis on a second incoming supply for the introduction of PFC.

After assessing the client’s data, we identified a below average power factor of 0.92 (lag) or 92% efficient and followed up with a PFC maintenance visit.

During our maintenance visit we confirmed the PFC unit was non-functional.  The cause of this was a failed ventilation fan, that had operated the fuses for the PFC controller.  We returned to site to replace the fan/fuses and recommissioned the unit, leading to a power factor improvement, from 0.92 (lag) to 1.00 (unity).

During the PFC maintenance visit we carried out analysis of the second incoming supply, at no extra charge, and determined there would be very little benefit from the introduction of PFC on this supply.

The client was delighted with the results of not only the PFC maintenance work, but the fact we identified further ASC savings of £9,762.00 annually, could be achieved by them simply reducing their supply capacity, with their energy supplier.

The client has since asked us to look at the benefits from the introduction of PFC at their site in Halesowen.  The benefits turned out to be substantial and we expect to complete installation in December 2022.
