Zot Integrated Manufacturing is a leading company in the printed circuit board, sheet metal and PCBA industry.  They specialise in high technology, quick turnaround and superior products for a diverse range of applications.

Committed to conserving the environment and treating the natural resources with respect and recognising their responsibility to minimise their environmental impact, Zot contacted Power Efficient Solutions Ltd to assess their electrical efficiency and offer advice for areas of improvement.

Power Efficient Solutions Ltd carried out an initial assessment of their energy bills and identified a relatively poor Power Factor. We followed this advice up with a visit to site to analyse their electrical supply in more detail.

The results of the analysis indicated significant improvement in energy efficiency could be achieved through the installation of Power Factor Correction.

Zot instructed is to carry out our recommendations and we installed a 200kVAr standard power factor correction unit.

During our original visit to site we had identified there was no suitably rated switch to facilitate the connection of the PFC unit to their existing switchgear, but offered a solution to this problem by including a suitably rated fused switch in the PFC unit specification.

By liaising closely with the client, the installation was completed with a short (1-hour) shutdown, outside their usual production hours to facilitate the connection of the PFC unit to their electrical switchgear.  The client was able to plan production around the 1-hour shutdown to remove any impact on their normal production schedule.

The installation of the PFC unit led directly to an improvement in Power Factor, from 0.84 (lag) to 0.99 (lag), resulting in significant environmental, system, and financial benefits as detailed below.
