Power Factor Correction for Zot Integrated Manufacturing, East Lothian

The moulding division of Brother Industries (UK) Ltd in Wrexham was formed in 1990, delivering a precision injection moulding and assembly service to blue chip clients.

The client engaged Power Efficient Solutions to assess their site for the introduction of Power Factor Correction.

The site had three incoming supplies with existing direct on-line Power Factor Correction equipment.  However, the equipment on two of the supplies was no longer functional or suitably rated to keep pace with their expansion in recent years and the Power Factor had dropped to 0.85 (85% efficient), leading to the site attracting reactive penalties from their supplier.

Following our detailed monitoring of each supply it was decided the most cost-effective solution would be to replace two of the existing direct on-line units for fully automatic units. This work led directly to an improved Power Factor of 0.98, the removal of any reactive penalties being attracted and facilitated a reduction in ‘supply capacity’ offering the savings detailed below and a project payback of 17 months.
